Dave Daley
Dave Daley is a founding member of the More’s Creek String Band, and more recently, the GIANT LEPRECHAUNS. Over the past 35 years, he has played, performed, and taught old-time and Irish fiddling throughout Idaho and the Northwest. He began playing fiddle in 1972 while living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Already an accomplished guitar and mandolin player, Dave’s old-time fiddling developed through the style and repertoire of Henry Reed, as taught him by Bertram Levy – a former member of the Hollow Rock String Band. (Levy is credited with bringing the traditional stringband music of the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Virginia - Henry Reed, Tommy Jarrell, Oscar Wright - to the Bay Area old-time music scene in the early 1970’s.)
In 1974 Dave discovered the Chieftains. Also in that year he and his wife moved to Idaho. Irish fiddle players Sean Keane, Kevin Burke, and Frankie Gavin were big influences on Dave’s fiddle playing from early on. With the More’s Creek String Band, Dave devoted his musical energies to old-time, Irish, and early western swing music, performing at numerous Northwest Folklife Festivals, Northern Rockies Folk Festivals, and McCall Folk Festivals during the late 1970’s and early ‘80’s.
Dave has been a participant, performer, and instructor at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Pt. Townsend, WA. More recently, Dave participated in the 2007 Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp, and for the past 4 years has hosted a weekly Irish music session at the Ha’ Penny Bridge Pub in Boise.
